HEAD PIZZA CHEF

Job Overview;

We are searching for a full-time Head Pizza Chef who is as passionate about pizza and ice cream as we are.  The role will be at in our newest site opening late May ‘26 in Freight Island, Eldon Square.

I Scream crafts artisanal sourdough New York pizza and house made soft serve sundaes. We are looking for a pizza chef to join our team who strives to produce the best quality food without compromise.

Freight Island is Newcastle’s newest neighbourhood: an island above the city with a focus on world class food, drink, music and events.  We will be a part of a collective of restaurants and bars, with a 1500 capacity music venue.

This is a full-time management role and the candidate will be responsible for leading a close-knit team of artisanal pizza makers and managing the day-to-day of the kitchen with support from Scream’s senior management.  The opening hours will initially be from 12-10pm Thursday-Friday as the site finds its feet.  We are anticipating a high volume, fast paced environment kitchen within a venue geared towards events.

Role Summary

 You will be the most senior manager of the site and overseeing the delivery of our offering to the site’s food hall alongside multiple other kitchens.  The team will consist of a small number of pizza chefs and you will be leading the kitchen to achieve the highest standards of food production and kitchen management.

Responsibilities:

-       You will be responsible for the maintenance of food consistency and excellence, while cultivating an inspiring environment for junior chefs to learn and prosper.
-       Driving cleaning standards and adhering to all EHO requirements.
-       Providing strong leadership by creating a customer focused/performance driven quality culture in the kitchen.
-       The ability to demonstrate effective and cooperative team working with colleagues at all levels is a prime requirement of the role.
-       To deliver the menu within the agreed budget and GPs to maximise profitability, which will include the effective management of staff levels and pay roll costs.

Required skill

- Experienced Head Pizza Chef with a strong knowledge of dough production and pizza making. 
- Preferably experience working with launching paddles rather than pizza screens.
- Experience managing a team and rotas.
- Experienced in training new team members and cultivating a positive work environment through leading by example.
- Proven ability to manage stock and prep in a busy kitchen environment.
- Proven ability in conducting stock takes.
- Ability to work with senior management to achieve desired and measurable results.
- Passion for all things pizza.
- A team player but can also work autonomously when required in a high paced environment.
- The ability to work to set brand standard food specs.
- Ability to work evenings and weekend is essential.  The role will initially be full time hours working Thursday-Sunday.
- Knowledge and proven management of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Experience working in a fast-paced pizza kitchen with high standards.
